Public Servant Accountability
Aren't We All Fed Up? Aren't we all fed up with voting people in to serve us in the management of our society and our community only to find that when they're in they do what the hell they like regardless of public feeling and opinion? Answer? YES!
All Public Servants Should Be Accountable! It is about time that all people who work for and on behalf of the public were accountable for their actions, the same as for the rest of us. After all, they're spending our money and affecting the quality of our lives in the process. That means that when they cock up, we pay twice. Once from our pockets and then from the ongoing inconvenience and chaos they have inflicted upon us. This would not be allowed in any other situation. If you were employing a builder or a mechanic you would expect satisfaction for your money. If you didn't get it you would be justifiably upset, and yet when we are talking about politicians and the local authorities, it seems they are completely immune to any comeback. They decide what they're going to spend and what they're going to spend it on regardless of public feeling.
A Blatant Abuse Of Trust! Spending public money against the will of the people, i.e. not on what people want to see their money spent on, is a blatant abuse of trust, a form of fraud and tantamount to stealing. Managing public resources, public facilities, physical space, parking, traffic schemes and transport, in a fashion that goes against the majority will is out of order and indicative of a society that is not democratic at all, despite what we are led to believe. Even when the local authorities are seen to have a public consultation it seems they have already made up their minds and are just going through the motions, knowing full well that they have no intention of taking any notice whatsoever of what the public actually think. In any other job they would be sacked and it is about time that local authorities, the Mayor's office, and governments alike, were equally accountable for their actions and answerable to the people whom they are supposed to be serving. Perhaps then they would think twice before just walking all over people feelings and making a mess of things.
